Enteric Bacteriology

  • Identification and serological typing of enteric bacterial pathogens:
    • Salmonella
    • Shigella
    • Campylobacter
    • Shiga toxin-producing E. coli
    • Vibrio
    • Yersinia
  • Testing of fecal specimens and food samples for these organisms from foodborne/waterborne outbreak events
  • Some organisms are identified using molecular techniques
  • Isolates involved in outbreaks are analyzed further by PFGE.
